Peter Hibbard In Stone
When I first encountered the sculpture of Peter Hibbard it was like recognising a friend one had not seen in a while. Peter is an artist working in the tradition of modern British sculpture, continuing to explore a vein of ideas and inspiration that originated with...

GEOFFREY BERTRAM
I am a retired gallerist with a past career in managing/directing art galleries in Edinburgh (The Scottish Gallery), Toronto (Theo Waddington Galleries/Waddington & Shiell) and London (Art First). After moving to Somerset I established Bertram Arts to promote the work of selected Somerset artists via exhibitions and art fair (the business is no longer active). Between 2005 and 2019 I chaired the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust promoting the life and work of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham (1912-2004) whose art I represented during her last decade. Today, I research and write on subjects that interest me, particularly on John Clerk of Eldin (1728-1812), and cataloguing my collection of old master prints.
During my career I have acquired many artworks in my support of artists. I am selling a selection of my personal collection here. The diversity reflects the broad interest and dynamism of the artists with whom I have been fortunate to work. These are presented in ARTWORKS.
JOHN CLERK OF ELDIN
A large part of this website is now devoted to the life and work of John Clerk of Eldin. His etchings were the subject of my postgraduate research degree from University of Edinburgh, and he has kept coming back into my life ever since. In 2012, I wrote and published The Etchings of John Clerk of Eldin, based on my original thesis, to mark the 200th anniversary of his death (The book is available here). I will continue to add to Clerk’s pages as we approach the tercentenary of his birth in 2028. He was an extraordinary figure who contributed to Edinburgh’s Age of Enlightenment.
OLD MASTERS
Arising from the projects surrounding the 2012 bicentenary of John Clerk of Eldin’s death, I began acquiring old master prints. Since then I have built an extensive collection on the theme of landscape, published between 1500 and 1820. The collection has grown to over 600 prints by 280+ artists/engravers. I am now rationalising the collection, removing duplicates and others which are no longer relevant. The available prints can be viewed in OLD MASTER PRINTS.
