Joumana Mourad (b. 1954, Manchester) is a London based artist who studied at Byam School of Art. In the 1990s she was represented by Boukamel Gallery. Her 1998 show of paintings and monotypes exhibited there comprised a collection of vibrantly coloured images described as acrylic monotypes. The liquid nature of the paint amplifies a sense of movement through water, making the goldfish images particularly striking. One could not help but be drawn to them. Red Fish is an extension from this series. The evident luminosity in the image stems from her extraordinary use of colour.
