Hermine David (1886-1970) was one of the Ecole de Paris artists, mainly émigrés from Eastern Europe, working in Paris before WWI. She married Jules Pascin (1885-1930), who was also a member, after following him to the States. However they were divorced by the time they returned to Paris in 1920. She is a well respected artist though not widely known. Anecdotally, she was a distant relation to Jacques Louis David, the Neoclassical painter. Her Wiki entry states that she was born out of wedlock, her mother insisting that her biological father was a Habsburg archduke….. Her etchings are hard to date. This very fine one is likely from the 1920s or 30s when she had representation in London and her work was exhibited there. .
